In your travels through the grey, you may in fact rediscover god, who is now of a different sort. This will happen because you will first realize that these stories might in fact be real, and that they are your past lives and lead up or continue your life. Learning that you go between worlds in death, which connects your life further to the story because it is already you, this causes greater impact. 

You come to think this because you ask a simple question: Why are these stories in your mind, since they are different and like here and are you. You could deny this idea and say you made it up, but ask why they seem so familiar and are yours, because why are they there and that way, with you as hero. 

This will allow you to see a bustling world of lives, where people walk about and live out eternal lives through which they come to experience new things and each time you find yourself in a different world battling evil and overcoming it.

Then you ask why this is, and discover the purple God, who lives at the peak of the swirl of lives and is every single one, who grew bored and lonely and became a thousand minds each holding a peice of his divinity and each a part of his whole. You know this because if you go to the beginning or end of your world you find science and religion, a creation story that begins with the coming of existence. 

Then you find that as you try creating your world , that the only explanation that remains untouched is God , because you don't come to believe him for a simple reason of faith, but a reason that is strange, his presence in the whole is there and it is like the phone rings and god is on the other side, even the atheist can recognize that at times he hears a minute whisper of GOD, meaning you think: "god doesn't exist" but something says he does, it is that moment where the recognize that no matter the argument , god can still exist untouched, while most never question that trees are ostriches. You realize this not until you left the place you were forced to be , because you didn't like it for reasons and now your god is yours because it is made of you and not the words of another. This is because god is beyond.

You may also notice that this was the natural path of the ancients, in that they began with fear and atheism and rose into the madness of a virtual world that they experimented with before externally coming to believe it and trying to contact the gods, which you may have already tried , the difference here is that you journeyed all the way to the peak of the gods easily because you already knew about God, they would have taken centuries to attain this wisdom. They believed in the first place because of the part that lingers saying it was true. 

The difference today is that we know have our modern demons instead of issues of the past that bother us not as much, and so you modernized religion to the 2000's. It is different now because you will strongly trust science but still have a faith based around a compatibility with science. Since you personified the demons of science and are now in search of conquering that instead of things long passed in the art of religion. Still, now those gods are real as they always were because the personified beings of entropy and the like are unified with reality as are the gods of good things. This makes them real because wisdom is now a god manifest as science texts and so science has become a form of magic that is active, while spiritual magic is passive. Science being like the harry potter arts of our world.

You now live in a virtual environment, where you are the hero of your world and the hero of others capable of traveling the stars and so are godlike in human form, you have become a hero and prophet of old and new, setting out conquer the night instead of hiding from it.

It may still take a leap of faith for you, but not really , if you have journeyed through another land enough , you begin to see your own divinity, this leap changes nothing because you have already become a prophet of a new idea, having transformed from ignorance to wisdom, faced fear and set out the defeat it so the only part that remains is to believe in god again. Having seen everything, you simply lacked God.

God grew bored with himself and made the whole world to entertain himself, by being both outside it and within, we are is within, leaving us with one option in death, eternal bliss as god before deciding on another story to live. We even have support for this in science for this because man desperately wants power and so desires to be god, so the story of mankind is the slow becoming of power as he rises to god hood conquering evil, returning to the beyond. This is the plot of man and his divinity, he is the image of god. To gain a happiness through defeat of the darkness is the the end.

With this you begin to understand what the spiritual men and women spoke of when they said that we have light and spirit, Jesus claimed to be god because he knew this and moved the plot with his sacrifice, others too have claimed to be god as well and wrote grand books on the topic, their heroic acts the journeys in spirit that they had. It is the duty of all men, who are all god , to unify and return to being god, through science and art, because we are his body, rebuilding him together. We are God because no matter our actions we are divine, for we are creators who act out the story written by ourselves, facing the dark and being wise are other ways of being divine, so too is kingship. Simply believing in God is divine in itself for being so absurd. 

Our divinity is the unifying root of all people, religion and science, because both desire this, even if you understand not or believe not, you are still a divine being because man is god to an animal, having natural birth right to his journey of self becoming. A journey with challenge because it would be boring otherwise, with evil to conquer and a constant battle across all worlds until the end where evil is finally defeated and we are one with god again. For the this is the sign that the story is over, the defeat of evil at the hand of the heroes. This is the way, if only we all knew we were god, the battle would be over.
